TrackStudio 2.7 beta - new features/important notes

Postby admin » Mon Jun 16, 2003 11:28 am

Possible issues with TrackStudio 2.7 (after upgrade from 2.5):

- In version 2.7 task priorities are workflow-specific. Due to that fact, the upgrade will result in all the priorities becoming empty (set to null) except for those concerning the tasks belonging to the standard categories (bug, task, project. etc.).
- It is necessary to save again those filters, which perform filtering by priority.
- The mechanism of e-mail notification has been changed, that is why the users who would like to subscribe to e-mail notifications must modify their filters. To enable email notification all registered users should log in, select the Filters tab, select the All filter, select Notify tab and click check box. More detailed description of email notification see below.
- In version 2.7 there may be relations between categories, that is why right after upgrading the database you may have to set relations for the created categories.

Email Notification
TrackStudio has a powerful filter-based system of email notifications. To get an email notification about a certain task or message type, the user must create a filter, go to the Notify tab and mark that he would like to get email notifications about the tasks meeting the filtering conditions for the current task and its subtasks.

For example, if the user creates a filter allowing only the tasks with priority=high and among them only those messages where message handler=customer, he will be getting email notifications only when high-priority tasks are created and when the customer adds some comments.

When a new task is created, TrackStudio get the list of parent tasks for the current task. After that every task and every available filter is checked whether the checkbox on this tab is set. If the checkbox is set and the task meets the filtering conditions, an email notification is sent. Please note that when creating a new task, the filtering conditions for messages are not checked even if they are specified.

When a new message is added, the similar operations are performed and additionally it is checked if the added message meets the filtering conditions for messages AND if sending email notification messages is allowed by the workflow (Transitions).

In case the task meets a number of filters the user is subscribed to, only one email notification message will be sent, the one that is sent for the task, which is at the lowest level in the hierarchy.

Note that a filter can be specified for one project and the subscription to it can be allowed for various subprojects and tasks.

The following filter parameters are not checked during the filtering condition check:
with subtasks
view messages
filter messages
bulk edit tool

Some FAQ:

Q. I have checked the box under the Notify tab at the root of all our
projects. Will this only turn email on for me or for all of our users?

A. Each user should enable email notification manually.

Q.I am receiving emails for messages and issues that I'm adding. In the
previous version this was not the case; can you give me instructions on
how to stop this from occurring?

A.You should
1) disable email notification for 'all filter'.
2) enable email notification for 'notify filter' for root task.
